YARN BASES

Lace Weight Mohair Silk

72% Superkid Mohair 28% Mulberry Silk

50g / approx 420m (459y)

Price $30

The softer and rarer Superkid mohair produces the softest, most luxurious mohair/silk yarn. Two strands of mulberry silk hold the mohair fibres in place to add radiance and strength. Gentle enough for next to skin wear. Superkid mohair is from the first shearing and these are the softest and finest fibres the mohair goats will ever produce. The second shearing is usually called kid mohair and is still of fine quality, but is not as soft as superkid mohair. This is a super light and airy yarn and can be worked at many different gauges. It produces gossamer-like items when large needles or hooks are used and soft, fluffy items at tigher gauges. It can also be carried with another yarn to add a delicate haze and to produce a surprisingly warm fabric. Superkid mohair has a natural pearly lustre.

A shimmering, soft and strong yarn produced from ultrafine superwash merino with mulberry silk added for a natural lustre, added strength and more drape. Creates items that shimmer in the light and have luxurious drape. Ideal for shawls and wraps. The extrafine merino results in a supersoft yarn that feels gentle against the skin.

4 Ply Luscious Sock

85% Superwash Extrafine Merino 15% Nylon

100g / approx 400m (437y)

Price $30

The extrafine merino wool makes this yarn luxuriously soft and bouncy for next to skin comfort, with 15% nylon which gives extra durability. It is one of my most popular bases because it is so versatile and can be used for scarves, jumpers, blankets, etc, as well as items where a little more durability is required such as socks and mittens. The fibres are washed, carded and then the combed (aligned) before spinning. Worsted spun yarns spun form longer staple fibres are more luxurious and refined, stronger and will feel softer and smoother. The use of longer, combed fibre and the removal of the shorter fibres during the combing process, significantly reduce pilling in the resultant yarn. The vast majority of spinning occurs in Italy as it offers the highest standard of production now available in Europe.
